submitting a project proposal @ er-c

step 1 – check feasibility of the project

External researchers planning to utilise experimental or methodical ER-C resources are requested to follow a three-step procedure described in the following to apply for periods of instrumental use or counselling actvities.

Prior submitting an offical proposal, please check the feasibility and lead time of the project to put into practise.

For these purposes, firstly consult a cognisant ER-C staff scientist whose area of expertise suits best the subject matter of analyses to be performed in all (most) respects

or, in case of obscurities, contact

Dr Karsten Tillmann

co-acting as ER-C representative regarding administrative issues.

step 2 – submit a project proposal – users from Germany and ROW countries

Having discussed the basic scope and viability of the project in detail with one or another staff member also serving as your ER-C contact person and project officer, please follow this link to download either the

er-c project proposal form (60 k "ms" word data format - german version)

or the

er-c project proposal form (60 k "ms" word data format - english version)

Complete either of these forms, which must not fall dramatical below two as well as exceed four pages and return your proposal to

Dr Karsten Tillmann.

Your proposal, which mandatorily needs to contain a statement regarding acceptance of the

er-c terms of use and charges regulations (300 k pdf document),

will be forwarded to an external review committee appointed by the German Research Foundation (DFG) which will decide on the eligibility of the proposal before long.

step 2 – submit a proposal – users from „EU“ member states exc. of Germany

Having discussed the basic scope and viability of the project with one or another ER-C staff member also serving as your ER-C project officer, external users employed at organisations or companies with a business address in a member state of the so-called „European Union“ except of Germany are requested to sumit research proposals via the European Network for Electron Microscopy (ESTEEM 3). For these purposes download the

request for transnational access administrative form (82 k "ms" word data format)

and the

request for transnational access proposal form case 1 (82 k "ms" word data format)

and forward fully completed versions of both forms to per e-mail to

esteem3@fkf.mpg.de.

Both documents will then be further processed by the ESTEEM 3 transnational access proposal evaluation committee and decide on the eligibility of the proposal within typcial “European Union” processing times.

Submitting a research proposal through ESTEEM 3 implies the acceptance of the

er-c terms of use and charges regulations (300 k pdf document).

During measurement campaigns external users will have to report on the use of instruments and on work performed for the benefit of specific ESTEEM 3 projects. For these purpose please print and complete the

esteem 3 documentation regarding the use of er-c ressources (300 k pdf file)

and return paper versions per interoffice mail to Dr Karsten Tillmann.

step 3 – arrange time and date

Subject to approval of your proposal, you may arrange visiting time and date for experimental analyses directly with your ER-C contact person (project officer) named in your proposal.

step 4 – referring to the use of ER-C instruments in publications

Users of ER-C instruments are kindly reminded to quote the following instrument descriptions when referring to the use of the ER-C's electron microscopes in publications:

additional information

Please note that the utilisation of electron microscope resources together with the introduction and concise guidance to the instruments by staff members is free of charge to universities as well as to noneconomic research organisations only. An extensive overconsumption of preparational material and recording media is, however, excluded from this golden rule of the centre. Commercial research laboratories will be asked for service charges according to the in-service charge tables.
